National Cookie Monster Day
Today we say Happy birthday, Cookie Monster! November 2nd is no less a day than the birthday of the cuddly Cookie Monster. His blue, fuzzy fur, the round eyes, and of course his call for Cooooookies have made the Cookie Monster famous all over the world.
So we celebrate his birthday today not only in Germany but in many different countries. The cookie monster enchants everyone around the globe.
Facts and information for real crumb fans
We all know the lovable crumb monster from Sesame Street. It was invented by Muppet creator Jim Henson. The figure was originally intended to appear in commercials and sketches. In 1969, the Cookie Monster celebrated its first appearance on Sesame Street. It was first played by Frank Oz and from 2001 by David Rudman. The doll is made of artificial fur, foam, and plastic.
Until today we assumed that Krümelmonster is the highly official name of the blue cookie fan. But in fact, his first name is Sid. We are surprised too!
Since the Cookie Monster was invented in the USA, it is actually called Cookie Monster. Because of course cookies are his absolute favorite food. In Germany, on the other hand, it was decided to adopt the name to the crumbling of the cookie. Anyone who has ever seen the Cookie Monster eat cookies knows those table manners are not exactly its strong point. But what the heck, we love the Cookie Monster just the way it is.
